Classes for Children 5 and Up
PRE-PRIMARY 1 (5-6 YEARS)
The Pre-Primary 1 class is designed to continue building on concepts introduced in Pre-Ballet. The skills that they are learning in this class will assist them in whatever dance form they should choose in the future. We incorporate themes that will interest your child while teaching them the fundamentals of dance in a fun and creative way.
PRE-PRIMARY 2 (6-7 YEARS)
The Pre-Primary 2 class is designed to continue building on concepts introduced in Pre-Primary 1. Ensuring a solid foundation has been built is extremely important to us as we believe it ensures your child is safe and creates a dancer who is able to move into any form of dance in the future with a seamless transition. The work covered in PP2 focuses on ensuring students are able to string the steps learned in PP1 together in simple short combinations while keeping time to music and maintaining technique.
PRIMARY (7-8 YEARS)
The Primary class is designed to continue building on concepts introduced in Pre-Primary. The concepts in Pre-Primary are perfected to ensure solid foundation is achieved prior to moving on to the Grade levels in ballet. Primary is considered the transitional grade into formal ballet. GRADE 1 AND 2
Grade 1 is a big step in a dancer’s life. Students in Gr. 1 are starting to learn steps that they will be using for the remainder of their years spent in ballet. Students often feel as they are now “big girls” as they move into a more formal dance setting. Students enrolled in their second year in Gr 1 ballet should consider enrolling in 2 ballet classes per week.
GR 2 AND 3
Students enrolled in Gr 2 Ballet & up are highly recommended to enroll in 2 ballet classes per week. This class will focus on the technical fundamentals of ballet and will ensure a solid foundation is being built.
GR 4 AND UP
Students enrolled in Gr 4 or up must enroll in 2 or more ballet classes per week.
The Teen Ballet Program was developed for students ages 12 and up who are new to ballet. Students will learn foundations of technical dance which will assist them in their other classes and/or allow them to join a more formal ballet class. NEW! PROGRESSING BALLET TECHNIQUE
An innovative program for students to understand the depth of training muscle memory in achieving their personal best in classical ballet. Developed by Marie Walton-Mahon who is known for her creative teaching skills and who has trained many professional dancers and teachers’ worldwide. She has experimented with outstanding success the use of muscle memory to improve students understanding of core stability, weight placement, and alignment.
JAZZ 2 (5-7 YEARS)
Jazz 2 is designed as an introduction to Jazz while still covering the basics of dance. Emphasis is given on developing proper technique so that students have a strong foundation that will allow them to expand into other areas of dance. A strong sense of rhythm is also extremely important during this stage of class development.
JAZZ 3A & 3B
Jazz 3A & 3B are designed as the next step into a more formal Jazz class while still covering the basics of dance. Emphasis is given on developing proper technique so that students are have a strong foundation that will allow them to expand into other areas of dance as well as provide them with a solid basis for entry into Jazz 4.
JAZZ 4 & UP
These upper level classes will be working on how to blend movements from choreographed step to step. Increased difficulty, independence & speed will be a focal point. Students new to Jazz age 9-11 are recommended to start in Jazz 4.

A fusion of Jazz & Hip Hop. This class is for the more serious dancer and should be taken in conjunction with Jazz.
Acrobatic Dance, or acro as it is commonly referred to by dancers and dance professionals, is the fusion of classic dance technique and the precision and athleticism of acrobatic elements. Students must be currently participating in a jazz & stretch class with at least 1 year previous training in Jazz.
Must be enrolled in Gr 3 ballet. Jr Contemporary is our first level of contemporary dance and provides an introduction of concepts followed in contemporary dance. Contemporary dance is a more relaxed, free style of dance. It uses emotions and moods to design steps. It has a deliberate use of gravity, while still focusing on the fundamentals of ballet.
INTERMEDIATE & SENIOR CONTEMPORARY
A continuation of the fundamentals established in Junior Contemporary Intermediate Contemporary students must be enrolled in at least Intermediate Foundations Ballet and Senior Contemporary students must be enrolled in at least Intermediate Ballet.
Must be enrolled in a ballet class as well. This teen based class will provide fundamental concepts of contemporary dance. Ages 12 years & up. Contact the studio for more information on placement for our teen program.
BALLET/TAP COMBO (4-6 YEARS)
BALLET/TAP COMBO allows students to sample both tap and ballet in one fun class. This class is designed to introduce the basic terminology and movements of ballet & tap.
TAP 1 (5-7 YEARS)
Tap 1 is designed to introduce the basic terminology and movements of tap. Combinations of basic steps are also introduced, creating new patterns and rhythms. Travelling steps are introduced, enabling students to work across the room one at a time giving one on one time with teacher and student.
TAP 2 (7-9 YEARS)
Tap 2 is designed to introduce the basic terminology and movements of tap. Steps learned in Tap 1 are reviewed and introduced at a faster speed. Combinations of basic steps are also introduced creating new patterns and rhythms. Travelling steps are introduced enabling students to work across the room one at a time giving one on one time with teacher and student.
TAP 3/4 – JUNIOR TAP
A review and of the fundamentals of tap and progressing on to more advanced combinations.
TAP 5 & UP
A continuation of the previous level but more attention will be paid to details. Increased difficulty, independence & speed will be a focal point. There will also be more of an emphasis put on creating new sounds from old steps. At the end of the year your child will be a tap, scuff and peri-diddle away from being a star!

HIP HOP 1/2 (5-7 YEARS)
Hip Hop 1 is designed to introduce your child to the world of Hip Hop while introducing the basics of dance. For children to properly understand the feeling of dancing into the ground it is imperative that proper attire is worn to all classes. (Please no jeans, bare feet, dress shoes, or short fitted shorts).
HIP HOP 3 & UP
Continuation of the fundamentals of Hip Hop.
BOYS ONLY HIP HOP (9-12 YEARS)
This class will cover the fundamentals of Hip Hop with a B-Boy twist.
HIP HOP 5 & UP
For students with pervious Hip Hop experience looking to perfect their skills. Fundamentals covered plus the introduction of Poppin, Lockin, Fluid, Groovin & B-Boy.
HIP HOP CREW
New in 2017 Adage Studio added a Hip Hop Crew. Hip Hop Crew is a competitive Hip Hop class with emphasis on choreography & performance. Applications for Hip Hop Crew can be obtained through the studio office.
HIP HOP TECH
A class focusing on the fundamentals of Hip Hop for students wanting to join our Hip Hop Crew or just wanting to add some depth to their Hip Hop repertoire.
Musical Theatre and Acting
MUSICAL THEATRE 1-3 (6-13 YEARS)
This class combines classical vocal training, dancing & acting into one fun class. This is a great introduction class to those who wish to join our acting program in the future.
MUSICAL THEATRE COMPANY
For the more serious Musical Theatre Student. Previous Musical Theatre experience a must. Special permission for class is necessary. See office for more information.
ACTING (9 YEARS & UP)
The Fall of 2016 marked a big change for our Acting Program! The sole purpose of our Acting program is to produce a show that will be performed late April at the Cowichan Valley Performing Arts Centre. Past productions include Annie Jr & Beauty & The Beast Jr. Students audition for various roles early September and rehearsals begin mid October. Our audition process is a learning process. We assist students in preparing for the audition and provide them with written materials as well as videos to study from. First time performers are encouraged to participate! Musical Theatre experience is an asset.
